Whenever Greeks meet in public…a party-like atmosphere ensues! I’ve seen this at hundreds of open-air dining tables…and, also, at Greek’s great markets. The big downtown market in Athens is among my faves: early-morning bustle reminiscent of the old Les Halles in Paris…plus coffee and eating and drinking! The place is ringed by dining establishments….which I cannot resist, even at 9AM! See it all on DRTV.

You know when you go to your Italian grocery, or salumeria, and ask for sliced prosciutto…and how, when you get it home and finally unwrap it, the thin slices are drying out, sticking together, shredding as you try to make presentational sense of it all? Well, let me make the plea for an indispensable kitchen acquisition that will treat your salumi right–the home meat slicer! Believe me, this is the right way to get a dinner party started–with prosciutto, and all kinds of salumi! Also great for assembling stupendous sandwiches. I’ve converted many a disbeliever. Watch my slicing show on DRTV…and become a convert yourself!
Though well under the radar, Thessaloniki is one of my favorite foodie cities in Greece. Part Riviera, part South Beach, part Cambridge, it’s the country’s second largest metropolis and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. Poised at the northernmost edge of the Aegean, Thessaloniki boasts a great seaside vibe. The Times Square of the Gods! Join me as I share my secret Grecian love in this week’s DRTV video.
Feeling Burgundian? I am as often as possible! And when I indulge in a rustic jambon persillé what makes a most delicious partner? Mustard mousse. Oh yeah. All you need is heavy cream, moutarde de Dijon, and the will to whip it! An easier, more elegant accompaniment you couldn’t imagine, this week on DRTV.
Somehow a tuna salad sandwich hardly seems to compare in Proustian terms with that warm, vanilla-scented madeleine…and yet…when I want to be transported back to the halcyon days of my youth, a no-frills tuna salad sandwich transports me there lickety-split. Here’s my take, just like mommy used to make. I bet it’ll satisfy you too!
